LDMI attends 2011 ERA D2C Convention

September 13-15 about 4,000 people attended the Electronic Retail Association’s conference at the Wynn in Las Vegas to discuss maximizing revenues through electronic retailing on television, radio and online media. Rusty Stanley, Cheri Duryea and Stephanie Sokerka represented LDMI to learn about upcoming media trends, new programming from the cable networks, the impact of the upcoming political year on DRTV, and prepare for 1st quarter DRTV rates and clearance.

This is always an entertaining show because it’s where the DRTV world meets to find new products, new spokespeople, new ideas….and it’s in Las Vegas. The show was a great learning experience for LDMI and gave us insight on how we can better serve our clients, while giving us an inside look at what we can expect from the world of DRTV in 2012.

And the Winner Is …

LDMI and Physicians Life Insurance Company have won a Bronze Telly Award for our “Drive Thru” direct response TV commercial. More than 13,000 entries were received from around the country, so we’re tremendously honored to garner this award.

The commercial takes an otherwise serious subject – life insurance – and makes light of the annoying buying process. It opens with a woman pulling up to a drive thru to inquire about life insurance. She faces a menu of confusing options along with a condescending voice (via speaker phone). Physicians Life Insurance is presented as the “simple and straightforward” solution for people ages 45 to 80. Key product features and benefits are highlighted and a premium is added to strengthen the offer.

Not only did the spot win a Telly, it also generated impressive results.

LDMI founder Gary Lortz was named Direct Marketer of the Year by the Mid-America Direct Marketing Association (MADMA). The award was presented April 21st and is based on integrity, innovation, creativity and contributions to direct marketing and the community.

Gary began his illustrious career in 1960 at Mutual of Omaha. In 1968 he joined Physicians Mutual Insurance Company to help set up the Direct Response Marketing Department. Then, in 1982 he launched his own agency, Lortz Direct Marketing, Inc. Additionally, Gary has served on numerous committees and organizations to help advance direct marketing in the Greater Omaha community and beyond.

Gary is one of the true pioneers of our industry and has touched the lives of many. To this day, he continues to be a guiding force at LDMI. Please join us in offering Gary a hearty congratulations.
